When and for what is this election?

The municipal elections will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. On that day, the residents of Zoetermeer will elect the members of the Zoetermeer municipal council. These municipal elections are held once every four years in the Netherlands. Polling stations will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on March 18.

Who is eligible to vote?

To be eligible to vote in the municipal elections, you must be at least 18 years of age on March 18, 2026. You must also have Dutch nationality.

Residents of Zoetermeer who do not have Dutch nationality may, in certain cases, participate in municipal elections. More information about this can be found on the website of the Electoral Council.

Why is your vote important?

The city council is there for all residents of Zoetermeer. The council consists of various (local) political parties, and together they determine what happens in our city. Their most important tasks?

  • Deciding what needs to be done in Zoetermeer.
  • Checking whether the mayor and aldermen are doing their job properly.

Your vote will help determine how and by whom Zoetermeer will be governed in the coming years. So... make your voice heard and come out to vote!

Who can you vote for?

By voting, you indicate which political party you want to see represented in the municipal council for the next four years. And the more seats a party has, the more influence that party can have on decisions about what should happen in Zoetermeer.

You will receive the list of candidates in your mailbox by Friday, March 13 at the latest. This list contains all political parties and their candidates that you can vote for.
