Zoetermeer district and neighborhood classification changes

Zoetermeer will now have 146 neighborhoods, divided into 12 residential districts, some business parks, the outlying area and the A12 zone. Neighborhoods are being divided, such as Buytenwegh De Leyens, and new neighborhoods and districts are being named.

The college decided to name more, and smaller, neighborhoods and districts to better distinguish between the different housing situations in an area. The now 25-year-old neighborhood classification, was too coarse-grained for a good view of population figures and, for example, the socioeconomic situation of a neighborhood. The new classification takes into account how neighborhood names were already popularly used. The underlying idea is that the municipality can now better tailor research, management and plans to a neighborhood or district. The aim was to create residential neighborhoods with populations between 250 and 2,500. The old classification was too coarse and did not fit well with the guidelines of the CBS (Central Bureau of Statistics).

Districts and neighborhoods

The Buytenwegh De Leyens district splits into the Buytenwegh district and the De Leyens district. The district Centrum will be split into the districts Stadscentrum, Dorp, Driemanspolder and Palenstein. There will be a new district at the entrance of the city. This district is now called "Entrance" or "Development District," but does not officially have a name yet. Some parts of the city that already existed have been moved to another district. For example, the 'New Village' was transferred from the Industrial Park district to the Village district. The street name committee considered the names for the new neighborhoods. New neighborhoods include the Waterbuurt, the Appelbuurt and the Lommerbuurt in Noordhove.

The new classification is shown below on the map of Zoetermeer. The implementation of the new classification in municipal systems will take place during 2025. In the meantime, the classification can also be found on the website of the municipality of Zoetermeer.
