Zoetermeer raises rainbow flag: You can be who you are

Saturday, October 11, was Coming Out Day, a day that draws worldwide attention to the right to be yourself. In Zoetermeer, this day was vigorously supported with the raising of the rainbow flag at the City Hall-Forum. Councilwoman Véronique Frinking raised the flag as a sign of visibility, solidarity and inclusion.

Councilwoman Véronique Frinking said, "Everyone deserves to feel safe, seen and valued in our city. Coming Out Day reminds us that identity should be celebrated. Not just today, but every day."

Equality is not a given

LGBTQ+ youth still too often experience harassment, exclusion and insecurity. Therefore, it is important that we do not look away, but actively show that discrimination in any form has no place here. Respect for differences is the basis of living together. That means listening, learning and giving each other space. But also looking for what unites us. Everyone deserves respect, no matter who you are or where you come from.
