Zoetermeer opts for sustainable building: working together for a future-proof city
On Thursday, Nov. 20, Alderman Bouke Velzen (sustainability) signed the Covenant on Future-proof Building on behalf of the municipality of Zoetermeer together with Bert Krikke, director of Cirkelstad.
Cirkelstad is a national cooperative that brings together the leaders in the construction industry to make circular building the norm. This means that Zoetermeer is working with other municipalities, companies and organizations to promote sustainable building.
Over the next few years, thousands of new homes will be built in South Holland. In Zoetermeer, too, many new houses will be added, especially in areas such as the Entree. But we don't just build: we want our city to be ready for the future. That means taking into account the climate, nature, energy consumption and the health of residents.
Sustainable building
The signed covenant includes a kind of agreement list of how Zoetermeer can build sustainably. Consider:
- Smart use of energy, such as well-insulated homes and solar panels.
- Reuse materials so that we produce less waste.
- Green neighborhoods, with space for plants, animals and water.
- Healthy living environment, with fresh air and safe streets.
Alderman Bouke Velzen (sustainability): "We want Zoetermeer to remain a nice place to live for now and later. By making these agreements, we ensure that new homes contribute to a healthy, green and future-proof city."
With this signing, Zoetermeer shows its commitment to sustainability. In this way, we are not only building houses, but also a better future for everyone.
