Zoetermeer wants to contribute to greening roofs

Zoetermeer is committed to a green, healthy and biodiverse city. To achieve this, the municipality of Zoetermeer is making subsidies available for greening roofs. The subsidy is available to everyone with a roof within the municipal boundaries of Zoetermeer. Whether you are a resident, entrepreneur, foundation, association or social institution or represent one.

Alderman Marijke van der Meer: "Stimulating green roofs is part of a package of measures for good climate adaptation. For example, Zoetermeer participates in the so-called tile-lifting, we like to hand out trees for private gardens and we have ambitions in planting more municipal trees." Anyone who greens a roof contributes to a more sustainable Zoetermeer. With the subsidy, one third of the total project costs can be reimbursed for the greening of a roof with a maximum of 3000 euros.

Why green roofs?

Green roofs have many advantages. They help keep the city cool in the summer, because green roofs get less hot than normal roofs. They also collect rainwater, which helps prevent flooding. Furthermore, they promote biodiversity by providing a place for different plant and animal species.
