Zoetermeer wants to contribute to greening of roofs

Zoetermeer is committed to a green, healthy and biodiverse city. To achieve this, the municipality of Zoetermeer is making subsidies available for greening roofs. The subsidy is available to anyone with a roof within the municipal boundaries of Zoetermeer. Whether you are or represent a resident, entrepreneur, foundation, association or social institution.

Alderman Marijke van der Meer: "Encouraging green roofs is part of a package of measures for good climate adaptation. For example, Zoetermeer participates in the so-called tile swapping, we like to hand out trees for private gardens and we have ambitions in planting more municipal trees." Those who green a roof contribute to a more sustainable Zoetermeer. With the grant, one-third of the total project costs can be reimbursed for greening a roof with a maximum of 3,000 euros.

Why green roofs?

Green roofs have many benefits. They help keep the city cool in the summer because green roofs do not get as hot as normal roofs. In addition, they capture rainwater, which helps prevent flooding. It also promotes biodiversity by providing a place for various plant and animal species.
