Fiber optic network construction

In Zoetermeer, a fiber optic network is being constructed for each neighborhood. The municipality does not do this itself, this is done by the telecom companies Open Dutch Fiber and KPN. The telecom companies determine where and when the fiber optic network will be installed and will inform you when they will arrive in your neighborhood.

Construction in your street

During construction, pipes with fiber optic cables are laid underground. The sidewalk in your street will therefore be broken up by the telecom companies or the contractors hired by them during the installation. They will also ensure that the street is neatly sealed up again.

Small colored cables from the ground

Is the work in the street finished? Then it may be a while before the telecom companies make the connections to the homes. Until then, small cables will stick out of the ground near the front of your house or front yard. These little cables are usually orange or blue-green in color. This way the cables are easy to find during the laying of the fiber optic cable to your home. These cables are temporary and it is important not to remove them.

Connection per house

After the work in your street, the connection for the fiber optic network is laid right into your home. Usually to the meter box. This requires your permission. We recommend that you always have the fiber optic network installed in your home when it is free of charge. Whether this is the case, you can check with the relevant telecom company.

Role of the municipality

The construction is done by the telecom companies at their own expense. According to the Telecommunications Act, the municipality must in principle give permission to the telecom companies for the construction of a fiber optic network. When giving permission, the municipality considers the accessibility of the neighborhood during the construction of the network. The municipality also tries to avoid nuisance from the work as much as possible.

Questions or notifications

Do you have a question or complaint about the fiber optic network work in your street? If so, please contact the telecom company that is laying fiberglass in your neighborhood. That company is KPN or Open Dutch Fiber. The municipality does not answer questions about the fiber optic work.

Should there be any discrepancies in your street after the work is completed, you can file a public space report with the municipality.
