Construction of 54 apartments at Zalkerbos 1 in full swing
Councilors Weerwag and Frinking came to take a look at the construction site of the Zalkerbos-Ikaros project at Zalkerbos 1 in Meerzicht. The old car garage will make way for 54 rental apartments for the private sector.
With 9 building layers and homes ranging from 62m2 to 176 m2, a large range of diverse rental homes will be added in Meerzicht. For starters, starters and seniors there is plenty of choice. The apartment building will be sustainably built, energy efficient and climate adaptive.
The large crane shows that it will be quite a building. "From the top floor, the penthouse apartments will soon have a beautiful view of Meerzicht," said Ellen van der Plas of VDPVastgoed, developer.
The Meerzicht program titled: More for Meerzicht is gaining traction. Cooperation between the municipality, housing corporations, health and welfare organizations and educational institutions are working hard for MORE. And not only in MORE improvement in the themes: housing, residential environment, social, economic stronger and livability and safety, but also in more housing. Adding housing in the middle rental sector will strengthen the socio-economic balance in Meerzicht.
Construction is in full swing. Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
