Fire department and municipality
Zoetermeer is one of the nine municipalities in the Haaglanden region. Whether it concerns firefighting, providing assistance in the event of accidents, or preventing incidents, they are on standby day and night, all year round.
What they do
The Haaglanden Fire Department is not only there to extinguish fires. They are also involved in:
- Disaster response
- Water accidents
- Storm damage
- Incidents involving hazardous substances
They also actively work to prevent incidents by:
- Advising on permit applications regarding, among other things, event safety, fire-safe construction, and the creation of a safe environment, particularly for high-risk properties.
- Providing information at schools, housing associations, and in the neighborhood.
- Supervising events, during construction and fire safety use.

Part of Safety Region
The Haaglanden Safety Region (VRH) works with nine municipalities to ensure a safe and resilient region. The VRH includes the Haaglanden Fire Department and GHOR Haaglanden, which are on standby 24/7 to provide assistance in the event of incidents, disasters, and crises.
An important part of this is risk communication: informing residents and visitors about potential risks in the region and what they can do to prepare for them. To this end, VRH uses the Haaglanden Veilig risk and crisis platform . On this website, visitors can find current reports, prevention tips, and what to do in the event of, for example, fire, extreme weather, power outages, or hazardous substances.
