Municipality of Zoetermeer, Unicoz, and gro-up sign a letter of intent for the Seghwaert Integrated Childcare Center
On April 1, the municipality of Zoetermeer, the Unicoz education group, and the childcare organization gro-up signed a letter of intent setting out the terms of their collaboration on the new Seghwaert Integrated Child Center (IKC).
The new IKC will replace the two existing schools, De Touwladder and De Hofvijver, and will be located at De Touwladder’s current site on Velddreef. By signing this agreement, the three parties are expressing their intention to collaborate in the new building.
Collaboration
"The municipality places great importance on collaboration between schools and childcare centers, so that children can attend a familiar place where they know the people around them as much as possible," said Alderman Marijke van der Meer (Education and Real Estate).
Annemiek de Jong, regional director of gro-up, confirms this: "Working together for children, families, and the community in Zoetermeer—that’s our goal!"
A modern and sustainable building
The current school buildings are outdated and no longer fully meet modern standards for education and childcare. The new IKC will be designed to be sustainable and energy-efficient, with modern facilities and a new gym that can also be used for after-school activities. Daphne van der Aa, member of the Executive Board at Unicoz Education Group: "The new IKC to be built will enable us to continue providing all students in Seghwaert with sustainable, high-quality education."
The council proposal for the new construction has been submitted to the city council, which is expected to consider it later this year. If approved, construction is likely to begin in late 2027.
