Gravestone or memorial placement

You may place a memorial on a grave. However, you need a permit from the municipality to do so. You will receive all the information for this with an application form when you apply for the grave right.

Memorial in a public place

Would you like to place a memorial in a public place? For example, for a traffic victim or victim of senseless violence? Then you need permission from the road authority. Often this is the municipality, but this can also be Rijkswaterstaat, the province or the water board.

Apply

The permit can be applied for by:

  • the tombstone specialist (stonemason)
  • the mortician
  • yourself

The person who has the grave in their name must sign the application.

The following information is required when applying for a permit:

  • the dimensions of the headstone or memorial plaque (length, width, height)
  • the type of material
  • the text
  • On which grave you want to place the headstone or memorial plaque
  • a drawing
