Scattering ashes

After a cremation, the ashes of the deceased are collected by the crematorium in an ash container. This ash container remains in the general niche of the same crematorium for one month. During this month, you decide what you want to do with the ashes.

In Zoetermeer, you can scatter ashes at the scattering field or in the ash scattering bowl at the Hoflaan cemetery. After scattering, a memorial plaque can be placed on one of the memorial pillars (these are at the scattering field at the cemetery and at the ash scattering bowl in the urn garden). For more information, visit the Meerbloemhof Crematorium website .

You can also scatter ashes in your own garden, a forest, from a boat or from an airplane. Keep in mind that by law, if you want to scatter ashes anywhere, you need permission from the owner of the land. In the municipality of Zoetermeer, you may scatter ashes anywhere on public land and already have permission. Make sure that scattering does not inconvenience others.
