Spring calls for a greener garden!

In Zoetermeer, residents have already requested more than 115 gardening consultations in a short period of time. A Garden Ranger will visit you to discuss how you can make your garden greener, with more space for nature. The Garden Rangers provide specific tips and ideas tailored to your wishes.

After receiving gardening advice, the Steenbreek Foundation and IVN Nature Education (the initiators of the Garden Rangers project) asked residents about their experience with the Garden Rangers and what they thought of the advice they received. The Zoetermeer Garden Rangers scored very well and received many compliments. This prompted Alderman Van der Meer to visit Alexandra, a resident of Rokkeveen, to see how she receives gardening advice from a Zoetermeer Garden Ranger and to express his compliments to the Garden Rangers.

Accessible garden

Resident Alexandra has difficulty walking and asked Garden Ranger Eric how she could adapt her garden so that she could still enjoy it. Alderman Marijke van der Meer agreed with this gardening advice: "We want more greenery and fewer tiles in our city. This will keep our city cooler in the summer, reduce flooding because rainwater will drain into the ground more easily, and create more space for plants and animals. I am delighted that Alexandra will soon be able to enjoy her garden even more. And I am proud of our wonderful Garden Rangers. I would like to thank them once again for their efforts to make Zoetermeer even greener."

Native seeds

As a thank you for requesting gardening advice, each resident receives a bag of native flower seeds, including species that grow naturally in Zoetermeer and the surrounding area. They can sow these seeds in their gardens so that beautiful (Zoetermeer) plants will grow and bloom. Alderman Van der Meer, Garden Ranger Eric, and resident Alexandra planted these seeds. Here's to a beautiful bloom!
