Interactive Tour: Colorful Zoetermeer

Zoetermeer has been given a splash of color with the “Colorful Zoetermeer” walking tour. During this walk, you’ll discover 14 colorfully painted transformer stations and electrical boxes in and around the city center. At seven locations along the route, you can watch a video on your phone in which the artist himself tells the story behind the artwork.

Zoetermeer Through the Eyes of Creators

The route showcases just how much creativity the city has to offer. Places you would normally walk right past now catch your eye. Through the creators’ stories, you gain a new perspective on the city and its artworks.

Zoetermeer chose the theme

The route is organized around three themes chosen by Zoetermeerders Instagram: “then, now, and the future,” “nature,” and “gaming & play.” Together, they illustrate Zoetermeer’s origins, its current state, and how the city continues to evolve.

Stories from the City

Behind the artworks lie personal stories. For example, Bjorn aims to spread positivity through his work *Energie genoeg!*, and Bas makes passersby walk on with a smile. Femke incorporated her own experiences into her design and shows how the challenges of using a wheelchair can become part of something beautiful. Thanks to the videos along the route, these stories can now be seen and heard.

Created by Zoetermeerders

The boxes were painted by a mix of professionals and creative Zoetermeerders. This makes the route not only colorful, but also truly a part of the city. Alderman Jan Iedema (City Marketing): "We are proud of these creations in our city. Through the videos, you can see and hear the creators’ stories, which brings Kleurrijk Zoetermeer even more to life. It literally makes you happy!”
