Youth ribbon for Steff Hoevers

Steff Hoevers (11) has received the Zoetermeer Youth Ribbon for his exceptional efforts as children's mayor of Zoetermeer during the 2024-2025 school year. The Youth Ribbon is a municipal award for children and young people aged 6 to 23 who have made an exceptional contribution to Zoetermeer society. Steff received the award from Mayor Bezuijen.

From letter to child mayor

Steff's efforts began with a personal letter to the mayor, in which he wrote that he wanted to become a child mayor and explained what he wanted to do for the children of Zoetermeer. In June 2024, he was officially appointed as child mayor for the 2024-2025 school year.

Ambassador for children in Zoetermeer

In his role as children's mayor, Steff represented the youth of Zoetermeer at various activities and official events. He was present at, among other things, the May 4 commemoration, King's Day, Light Evening, the arrival of Sinterklaas, and the four-day walking event. Steff was keen to promote road safety around schools and collaborated on an awareness campaign on this topic. He also felt it was important to increase children's enjoyment of reading. A special display was therefore set up in the library with his personal book recommendations.

Mayor Michel Bezuijen looks back on the collaboration with appreciation: "Steff always brought a fresh perspective, enthusiasm, and good ideas. He showed me how children think about what is going on in our city. He was always well prepared, committed, and a true ambassador for the children of Zoetermeer. It was a great pleasure to work with him."

Valuable contribution to the city

According to the mayor, Steff has made an important contribution to ensuring that children's voices are heard within the municipality. With the Youth Ribbon, the municipality expresses its appreciation for Steff's enthusiasm, commitment, and his meaningful role as children's mayor.
