New bus line 'De Opstap' launched in Zoetermeer

On Monday, January 5, 2026, De Opstap made its first trip with aldermen Véronique Frinking (mobility), Bouke Velzen (social affairs), and Jeffrey Keus and Marc Rosier from the Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Region (MRDH). De Opstap allows residents of Rokkeveen to travel to Dorp or the city center.

This trial of customized transport complements the existing transport line and focuses on residents who currently do not have access to suitable transport from the Rokkeveen neighborhood. For example, people who live too far from a bus stop but are not eligible for Wmo transport. With this new transport option, the municipality is improving the accessibility and independence of this group of residents.

The service is an initiative of the municipality of Zoetermeer, in collaboration with the MRDH, and is implemented by De Binnenbaan, the regional employment agency for Zoetermeer and Leidschendam-Voorburg.

Alderman Véronique Frinking believes mobility is important for all residents of Zoetermeer. "I am very pleased that we can offer this form of mobility to our residents. With De Opstap, we are opening the door to greater convenience and combating loneliness. A message or just a visit. It's all possible. This is how we bring the city closer to everyone."

Alderman Bouke Velzen adds: "De Opstap is more than just a bus that takes people from A to B. The collaboration with Binnenbaan offers people who are distanced from the labor market a great opportunity to find paid employment. People are literally and figuratively set in motion."
