De Leyens Drawbridge: Replacement and Maintenance

The municipality is replacing the drawbridge in the De Leyens neighborhood, between Giekwerf and Pinaskade. Work on the bridge will take place in October and November 2026.

Meeting on March 2, 2026

On Monday, March 2, the municipality held an open house for local residents. During the event, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions about topics such as the project timeline, the phasing of the work, and the materials to be used for the embankment. Representatives from the municipality and the contractor Griekspoor were on hand to provide explanations and answer questions.

We will answer the questions asked during and after the meeting and post them on this webpage. View the Q&A document here.

Would you like to know more about the specific schedule?

For more information about the phasing and scope of the activities, please refer to the document: Phasing of Restoration Work on the De Leyens Drawbridge. This document provides an estimate and does not confer any rights.

What are Griekspoor's business hours?

The contractor’s working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We understand that the construction work may cause temporary inconvenience. We appreciate your understanding.

How will Griekspoor carry out the work?

The work will be carried out from the water. Pontoons will be set up to transport the materials across the water.

Communication prior to the work

Immediate neighbors will receive a letter from the municipality containing advance notice of the work. Two weeks before work begins, the contractor will also distribute letters. Signs have been placed on both sides of the bridge. These signs indicate the dates during which the bridge will be closed.

Detour

During the construction work, a temporary detour route will be set up via Fregatwerf. There is already a good bike path there.
