Placement 3 Stolpersteine for fallen resistance fighters on April 2
In 2025, we will commemorate 80 years of freedom throughout the Netherlands. In Zoetermeer, too, we will mark this special anniversary with various events and commemorations. On April 2, in the Molenstraat (16:00 - 16:45 hrs.) and at the J.L. van Rijweg/Bovenlangs (17:00 - 17:15 hrs.) Stolpersteine will be laid for fallen resistance fighters from Zoetermeer.
Mayor Bezuijen, in the presence of relatives, will place the Stolpersteine for Jan Hoorn, Cornelis van Eerden and Jacob Leendert van Rij. The small, handmade memorial stones will be placed in the footpath near the places where they lived at the time, as a lasting reminder of their courage and commitment. More about the 3 resistance fighters can be read at Herdenken in Zoetermeer | Oorlogsgraven.
Artist Gunter Demnig
Stolpersteine is an art project by German visual artist Gunter Demnig, which grew into his life's work since 1992. The stones commemorate not only Jewish Holocaust victims, but all victims of National Socialism. The project is deliberately inclusive and continues to grow. By now, more than 104,000 Stolpersteine have been laid worldwide, a symbolic number that recalls the millions of dead and persecuted. Demnig emphasizes that the Stolpersteine are not tombstones, but markers where relatives can return. Passersby figuratively trip over them, "with their heads and hearts. New Stolpersteine are laid every day, so that future generations continue to remember the victims. Demnig's dream is that wherever victims fell, Stolpersteine are laid, so that their names are permanently remembered. For more information: www.stichting-stolpersteine.nl.
