Theme Afternoon: "Go Ahead and Ask"

On Friday afternoon, May 8, the "Meaning" theme group of the Zoetermeer Young Seniors Foundation is hosting an event titled: "Go ahead and ask!"

"Man, dare to live" is a well-known song from the last century. An important part of daring to live is daring to ask. It turns out that many people don't find it easy to ask for help.

Possible reasons include:

  • When I ask for help, it’s never done the way I want
  • My neighbors are just too eager to help
  • I'm afraid I'll have to do something in return
  • I feel ashamed because I have to ask for help

Do you also find it hard to ask for help? Did you know that international research shows that people who do ask for help are viewed more favorably?

During this themed afternoon, we’ll come together to discuss asking for and offering help. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. with a drop-in session featuring information tables, including details about Palet Welzijn, Humanitas, Mantelzorgcentrale, Stichting Werk en Inkomen, Stichting Samen tegen Eenzaamheid, Oké Leven, and, of course, JongSeniorenZM. After a brief introduction to circles of attention, Mark Reijnders from the Netherlands Institute for Social Research will discuss his doctoral research on the difficulties people face when asking for help. Following that, we will engage in a dialogue about asking for help based on a series of statements.
