Ultrasonic buoys are being removed from the Zoetermeerse Plas
The municipality will soon have the ultrasonic buoys in the Zoetermeerse Plas removed. The buoys were intended to combat the growth of blue-green algae and have been in the lake since 2016. The contract with the supplier has expired and will not be renewed. This decision was made in part because the municipality of Zoetermeer and the Rijnland Water Board are taking measures that are expected to have a more effective and sustainable impact on limiting blue-green algae.
Blue-green algae problem
If there is too much blue-green algae in the water, it is not possible to swim in it during the summer. The ultrasonic buoys were an initial measure to combat the growth of blue-green algae. Unfortunately, this measure has proven to be insufficient to solve the problem structurally. The intention is that the plans within the collaboration between the municipality and the Water Board will make a difference.
Our Blue Gold
The Our Blue Gold project aims to reduce the amount of nutrients that cause blue-green algae to grow in the waters of Zoetermeer. The various measures implemented as part of this project will improve water quality in our city and in the Zoetermeerse Plas lake. This will also reduce the risk of blue-green algae.
