Afrikaweg viaduct closed for two weeks
Due to major maintenance, the Afrikaweg viaduct over the A12 toward Rokkeveen will be closed to all traffic from 9:00 PM on May 31 through June 15, 2026. The closure applies in both directions from the intersection of Afrikaweg and Meerzichtlaan to the intersection Zuidweg Houtsingel. Exit 6 (Zoetermeer Centrum) on the A12 is also closed.
Traffic detour
During the closure, traffic will be rerouted via Zoetermeer Oost Station, Oostweg, and Exit 7 of the A12. The A12 toward The Hague can be accessed via Oostweg and Hoefweg. Please allow for extra travel time and expect heavy traffic on the detour routes. Avoid driving if possible and take your bike instead.
Bus traffic disruption
Bus service will also be rerouted. Please expect delays between the Centrum-West and Zoetermeer Station bus stops.
During the closure of the viaduct, bus routes 71 and 455 will follow a detour between the two stops. Due to the detour, some bus stops will be temporarily closed. Please check a route planner for the latest travel information before departing.
During the closure, bus line 170 will not run between the Centrum-West and Zoetermeer Station stops. Passengers traveling to and from Centrum-West are advised to transfer to the RandstadRail at Lansingerland Station.
What services do we provide?
The maintenance is being carried out in collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat. The work includes repaving the road and making repairs to the overpass. In addition, the traffic lights are being replaced.
