Volunteers wanted: Counting insects in the Wilgenbos forest in Zoetermeer

Willows are an important source of food for insects, such as wild bees, because they bloom early in the spring. In 2022, Noord Aa willow forest was planted near the Noord Aa in the shape of the Zoetermeer municipality logo. This forest contains various species of willow. As a municipality, we are interested in which species of bees (and other insects) are attracted to the different types of willow.

We also need volunteers to help with the counting. Would you like to count wild bees (and other insects) in the willow forest between March 2026 and May 2026? If so, please register at Ecologieenbiodiversiteit@zoetermeer.nl. You will receive an explanation in advance about the types of bees and insects and how to count them. Counting for an hour a week is often enough. No experience is necessary, but enthusiasm for everything that buzzes is a must.
