Winners of the Zoetermeer Sports Gala
The winners of the Zoetermeer Sports Gala were announced during a festive evening at the Stadstheater in Zoetermeer. Presenter and comedian Najib Amhali presented the sports awards together with Alderman Ronald Weerwag (sports). The awards went to athletes and coaches who have achieved exceptional performances over the past year and put Zoetermeer on the map nationally and internationally.
The jury consisted of Alderman Ronald Weerwag (sports), Hans Beukema (sports reporter), Ed Bontrop (manager of Team KPN Sportfonds), Lisa van Belle (Dutch track and road cyclist and Sportswoman of the Year 2024), and Rita Soutendijk (Zoetermeer Actief), and selected the following winners:
Sportswoman of the Year
The title of Sportswoman of the Year went to Milou van Wijk (swimming). She had an exceptional sporting year, winning several medals at the European Short Course Championships in Poland, including two gold medals and a bronze medal in relay events.
named Sportsman of the Year Jeroen van Voorden (cycling) was named Sportsman of the Year. He made a big impression by becoming world champion in Lorne (Australia) in the highest category of amateur cycling.
Sports Talent of the Year
The Sports Talent of the Year award was presented to Jayden Paton (gymnastics). With his strong performances and promising development, he demonstrated that he is ready for a bright future in sports.
Sports Team of the Year
In the Sports Team of the Year category, the victory went to Mats and Kai Groen (padel). The duo distinguished themselves with impressive results and strong mutual cooperation.
Unique athlete of the year
The title of unique athlete of the year went to Michael Thomas (para table tennis). He was praised for his sporting achievements, perseverance, and inspiring role model status within adapted sports.
Sports Coach of the Year
Finally, Wesley Wilbrink (karate) was crowned Sports Coach of the Year. The jury praised his commitment, professionalism, and the successes of his athletes at both the national and international levels.

Alderman Ronald Weerwag (sports) is proud of the athletes' achievements: "During the Sports Gala, we celebrate what sports bring to Zoetermeer: passion, perseverance, and inspiration.
