Waste tax

You pay waste collection fees because you have the option of delivering garbage to your address.
The amount depends on the number of people registered at your address.

The municipality collects garbage every week. Even if you do not use the garbage collection service, you must pay waste collection fees.

What you need to know

Do you live with more than one person at one address? Then the assessment usually comes in the name of the person: 

  • Who also receives assessments for the address as the owner.
  • Or the one who has been registered at the address the longest. 
  • If more than one person is registered at the same time, the assessment goes to the oldest resident.

Change in your situation?

Are you using an address where garbage can originate in Zoetermeer as of January 1? If so, you pay waste disposal charges for this address for the entire year.  

Do you use an address where garbage may originate in Zoetermeer later in the year? Then you pay waste disposal charges for the number of full calendar months from the date you are registered at that address in Zoetermeer. 

You are moving with your household within Zoetermeer 

Then you will take the waste collection assessment with you. As of the new year, you will receive an assessment for the new address. 

You are moving with your household outside Zoetermeer

If so, you may be able to get a reduction in the waste disposal fee for the full calendar months that you no longer live in Zoetermeer.  

You are going to live together and moving within Zoetermeer

If so, it may be possible that the waste collection assessments imposed on you and your partner will be reduced. This depends on whether you move in with your partner or if you both live at a new address. 

Issue direct debit authorization

You can issue a direct debit authorization if the amount of the assessment is under €20,000. You can arrange the authorization through:

Objecting

Do you think the assessment is incorrect? Then file an objection via:

The municipality must have received your objection within 6 weeks from the date of the assessment. You will receive confirmation of receipt within 5 working days.

Requesting a waiver

Do you have low income or little assets (money and property)? Are you unable to pay your taxes? Then apply for remission through:

MijnBelastingen

If you are entitled to remission, you do not have to pay the tax or part of it. You can apply for remission only for your private assessments that are in your name for your residential address (not for your business assessments).

Please note! At City Hall you can only pay by debit card or cash.

Change or delete appointment?

Once you have made an appointment you will receive a confirmation e-mail. This e-mail also contains a link that allows you to change or delete your appointment.

Are you changing your appointment? If so, don't forget to delete the other appointment!

Do you no longer have the e-mail? Call 14 079. A staff member can change or delete the appointment for you.

The garbage tax is listed on the municipal tax bill.
