Redevelopment Delftsewallen
In recent years, developer WDevelop, in consultation with the municipality of Zoetermeer, has drawn up a plan for the redevelopment of the former gas factory site and the site of the old bed store at Delftsewallen 23-25. Fourteen ground-level owner-occupied homes will be realized here, including a care home. The project is also known as Fittershof and the design is final.
Permits
The necessary environmental permits "may deviate from the zoning plan" and "construction activity" are irrevocable. As a result, the land of the former gas factory site can now be transferred by the municipality to the developer. The developer has purchased the bed business from the owner.
Start of work
In October 2024, demolition of the bed store will begin, the site will be remediated and pre-construction of utilities will be performed. Construction of the homes will begin in April 2025.
Information meeting
Three weeks before demolition starts, contractor Niersman Bouw Haaglanden will organize an information meeting to explain to local residents about the work and how nuisance will be minimized. Two weeks before the information meeting local residents will receive an invitation by letter.

Participation
In 2019, participation took place. Under the direction of the city architect, consultations with the Spatial Quality Committee took place. These consultations resulted in plan modifications with a positive opinion.
Background
Redevelopment Delftsewallen is one of the projects of the Inner City Program through which we are working toward a lively and attractive inner city. It is part of Subarea 7, Dorpsstraat . The plan area is centrally located in the old village center of Zoetermeer, southwest of the historically important intersection of Dorpsstraat with Delftsewallen and Leidsewallen. This section falls within the municipal protected village sight Dorpsstraat and within the municipal archaeological monument Dorpsterp. It is also diagonally opposite the Oude Kerk, one of Zoetermeer's most important national monuments, and opposite the municipal protected cityscape Wilhelminapark. A development at this location is desirable, as it would give a qualitative interpretation to Dorpsstraat as part of the city center.
