Odor policy
The odor policy deals with the odor of animal facilities of extensive livestock farms and riding stables. The odor policy describes the distances to so-called odor-sensitive objects such as homes.

These are buildings where people stay for longer periods of time, such as homes, schools or hospitals. Because of these legal distances, a number of extensive livestock farms and riding stables in Zoetermeer cannot expand any further. Therefore, the municipality has drawn up an Odor Vision. This states that it is possible to reduce the legal distances. This gives a number of livestock farms and riding stables in the outlying area more space and opportunities to accommodate additional animals, for example. It is important that these businesses can grow because they play a major role in landscape management and recreation. Reducing the distances in practice causes little to no additional odor nuisance.
