Home visits to ensure an up-to-date and reliable BRP
The municipality of Zoetermeer conducts home visits to ensure that the information in the Basic Register of Persons (BRP) remains as accurate as possible. This is a statutory duty of the municipality: it is responsible for maintaining an up-to-date, accurate, and reliable record of who lives where.
Why does the municipality conduct home visits?
Sometimes there are indications that the address information in the BRP is incorrect. In such cases, the municipality may decide to investigate. For example, registrations in the BRP may be checked, or the municipality may verify whether the current registrations for a given address are correct. Residents are not notified in advance so that the situation can be assessed as accurately as possible.
Accurate registration is important. This helps prevent people from receiving benefits they are not entitled to, or from receiving mail intended for someone else. During a home visit, it may sometimes become apparent that someone needs assistance, for example, with debt or healthcare. The municipality will then determine whether it can help.
When does the municipality conduct home visits?
The municipality has been conducting these home visits for some time now. Home visits usually take place during the day. A few times a year, the municipality will conduct home visits in the evening. The purpose of the home visits remains the same: to verify that the information in the BRP is correct and to update it if necessary.
How to recognize a city employee
You can recognize a municipal employee by their official uniform, which features the municipal logo, and their municipal ID card—the employee’s proof of identity. It’s always wise to verify who you’re actually dealing with. You are therefore always allowed to ask to see their ID. Municipal employees will show it to you without any hesitation.
