Artwork 'The Zoetermeerders'
A work of art by Aafke Bouman 'The Zoetermeerders' has been placed on the walls of 6 bicycle tunnels. The tunnels under the Afrikaweg, near the Marathonpad, near the Van Aalstpad/Kangoeroepad (Seghwaert side), near the Kangoeroepad (Centrum side, Palenstein) and the alderman Jennetunnel together form one big visual story about the people of Zoetermeer.
The artworks are the result of a collaboration between partners from the city, such as Treasurers, HGOS and the Leisure (art and culture) and Urban Management departments of the municipality and also aligns with the goals of the Cultural Vision 2030.
Each tunnel has its own human-centered theme: The Peasants, The Pioneers, The Connectors, The Community, The Sustainers and The Youth. Together they form the story of Zoetermeer's development, ideals and coexistence in the city over the years.
Alderman Marijke van der Meer: "Our tunnels were in need of a facelift, and what better way to do that than with art? These colorful works of art not only bring cheer into the daily lives of our residents, but they also promote a sense of pride and connection to Zoetermeer."
