With a declaration of support you support a party that is running in the elections. You receive the declaration of support from the political party. You sign the declaration of support at City Hall. You do not have to make an appointment for this.

When does a political party collect statements of support?

A statement of support is required for a political party that:

  • competing in elections for the first time,
  • did not receive a seat in the previous House of Representatives election or
  • participates with a blank list (without a party name).

Would you like to support a political party? Then you can sign a statement of support at City Hall from Sept. 1 to Sept. 15, 2025.

How does it work?

  • You will sign the statement at City Hall in front of the city official.
  • You may not sign more than 1 statement for each election.
  • The support person must identify themselves with proof of identity.
  • You must identify yourself with proof of identity.
  • After being signed by the official, you will be given the statement.
  • You submit the signed statement to the political party.
  • Please note that if you make a declaration of support for a political party, it cannot be reversed later. The declarations of support are publicly available for inspection after the nomination of candidates. With that, your data also becomes public.

Who gets to sign?

You can only sign a declaration of support if you are registered as a voter within the Leiden electoral district. This is you if you live in Zoetermeer and can vote there.

You may also sign a declaration in Zoetermeer if you are on a candidate list of a political party. You must then also be registered in the Leiden electoral district.
