A Renewed Focus on Bicycle Rules in the City Center and the Dorpsstraat
In the Stadshart and the Dorpsstraat , there are rules regarding bicycling during store hours. That is why we are once again drawing attention to the rules and hours for both shopping districts. The main rule is: when stores are open, walk.
Stores open = walk
City center
Cycling is not permitted in the City Center:
- Monday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Friday evening (late-night shopping) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Dorpsstraat
Cycling is not permitted in the Dorpsstraat :
- Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Friday evening (late-night shopping) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The rules apply to all bicycles, including regular bicycles, electric bicycles, and fat bikes.
Temporary Exemption for Residents with Mobility Impairments
Do you have a mobility impairment and rely on your bicycle? If so, you can apply now for a temporary exemption. With this exemption, you may ride your bicycle through the Stadshart and the Dorpsstraat from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. On Friday evenings, the exemption applies from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Enforcement
In both shopping districts, enforcement of the applicable bicycle rules is in effect. Anyone who fails to follow the rules may be fined.
With these rules, the city aims to ensure greater safety and peace of mind for pedestrians and shoppers. This will help keep the City Center and the “ Dorpsstraat ” pleasant and accessible to everyone.
