"PeuterPlezier" Kicks Off at Zoetermeer's Urban Farms

Reading and discovery go hand in hand. That’s why the City of Zoetermeer, the Forum Zoetermeer Library, and the three urban farms are joining forces with PeuterPlezier: an initiative that introduces young children to books and reading in a playful way.

The official kickoff of PeuterPlezier took place at the De Weidemolen city farm, where Alderman Hilko Folkeringa-Florizoone unveiled a colorfully painted bookcase. Earlier, on October 18, 2026, a similar bookcase had already been unveiled at the De Balijhoeve city farm. “What I love about this is that the bookcases were designed by children. The winning designs from a drawing contest have been painted onto the bookcases. Farms really capture the imagination, and this is a wonderful, accessible way to introduce children to the joy of reading at a young age.”

During the monthly PeuterPlezier sessions, a reading consultant from the Forum Zoetermeer Library reads picture books aloud using a storytelling theater and storyboards. Afterward, toddlers can choose a book from the special bookshelf together with their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. The collection consists of storybooks and informational books about animals, the farm, and nature. In this way, the joy of reading and an appreciation for nature are connected in an accessible manner.

PeuterPlezier takes place every month at all three urban farms. Participation is free, and registration is not required. More information and current dates can be found on the Forum Zoetermeer Library website at .
