Stedin transformer substations

In Zoetermeer, more and more electricity is being used and more and more electricity is being generated. As a result, the electricity grid is being used and burdened more and more. Stedin provides this electricity grid and wants to strengthen it, so that it can continue to supply electricity in the future. In order to strengthen the grid, Stedin wants to replace several transformer stations and also add new transformer stations. The municipality of Zoetermeer supports Stedin in this.

Examples of transformer stations

Current situation

There are currently several transformer stations in the city. These are buildings where high-voltage cables enter, and power is converted to several smaller cables with a lower voltage. These stations therefore distribute the power to smaller parts of the city and are necessary to provide everyone in the city with power.

Locations

Transformer stations are being renewed or replaced at several locations in the city. There are currently plans for new stations at Edisonstraat, Wiltonstraat and Zwaardslootseweg. There are plans to expand a transformer station at Abdissenbos. Some existing transformer stations are still being investigated to see if they need to be replaced. It is also being investigated at which other locations in the city new transformer stations are needed. As soon as more information is available, the information will be added to this website. Below you can read more about the various plans for transformer stations.

Abbess Forest

At the Abdissenbos there is a transformer station that needs to be expanded. This station will provide more power for the developments in the Entree. More homes are being built and therefore more power is needed. That is why the transformer station is being expanded. On September 7, 2023, the municipality organized a meeting together with Stedin to tell local residents more about this. In the documents at the bottom of this page you will find the images of the preliminary design, the process diagram and the report of the meeting.

Edison Street

A second transformer station will be built on Edisonstraat. This will be on the field next to the parking lot of the Mormon church. The municipality has involved the neighborhood in the development of the plot of land on which the station will be built. At the bottom of this page you can find a report of the information meeting and a letter about tree felling.

Wilton Street

A new transformer station will be built in Wiltonstraat. This will be built on an empty spot on the corner of Phillipstraat. The station will replace a station on Schoolstraat. The station on Schoolstraat will be removed when the new station is ready. A report of the information meeting and a letter about tree felling can be found at the bottom of this page.

Zwaardslootseweg

A new transformer station will be built on Zwaardslootseweg. The existing station on this road is too small. Stedin and the municipality of Zoetermeer have therefore made plans for a new and larger transformer station. This will be built next to the current transformer station. When the new station is in use, the existing station will be removed.

Walk-in meeting

On Thursday 5 September from 19:00 to 21:00, the municipality and Stedin organised an open evening for residents and interested parties. The evening took place in the auditorium of the Prinses Margrietschool at Antigoneschouw 12 in Zoetermeer. People could drop in at a time that suited them. Approximately 50 interested parties attended the meeting. Alderman Marijke van der Meer was partly present. The report can be found at the bottom of this page.

Petition to save tennis court

During the meeting, residents presented the alderman with a petition with 300 signatures for the preservation of the tennis court. The alderman accepted the petition and promised the residents that the municipality would give the tennis court a place somewhere in the neighborhood.
