Stedin transformer substations

In Zoetermeer, more and more power is being used and also more and more power is being generated. As a result, the electricity grid is being used and burdened more and more. Stedin takes care of this electricity network and wants to strengthen this network in order to be able to supply power in the future. In order to strengthen the grid, Stedin wants to replace some transformer stations, and also add new transformer stations. The municipality of Zoetermeer supports Stedin in this.

Examples of transformer stations

Current situation

There are currently several transformer stations in the city. These are buildings where high-voltage cables enter, and power is converted to several smaller cables of lower voltage. So these stations distribute power for smaller parts of the city and are needed to provide power to everyone in the city.

Locations

Transformer substations are being renewed or replaced at several locations around the city. There are currently plans for new stations on Edison Street, Wilton Street and Zwaardslootseweg. At Abdissenbos, there are plans to expand a transformer station. For some existing transformer stations it is still being investigated whether they should be replaced. Other places in the city where new transformer substations are needed are also being examined. As soon as more is known about this, information about it will be added to this website. Below you can read more about the various plans for transformer substations.

Abdissenbos

There is a transformer station on Abdissenbos that needs to be expanded. This station will in fact provide more power for the developments in the Entrance. There will be more homes and therefore more power is needed. Therefore, the transformer station will be expanded. On September 7, 2023, the municipality organized a meeting together with Stedin to tell local residents more about this. In the documents at the bottom of this page you will find images of the preliminary design, the process diagram and the report of the meeting.

Edison Street

There will be a second transformer station on Edison Street. It will be located on the field next to the parking lot of the Mormon Church. The municipality has involved the neighborhood in the layout of the piece of land on which the station will be located. A report of the information meeting and a letter about tree canopy can be found at the bottom of this page.

Wilton Street

A new transformer station will be built on Wilton Street. It will be located at an empty spot on the corner with Phillipstraat. The station will replace a station on Schoolstraat. The station on Schoolstraat will be removed when the new station is completed. A report of the information meeting and a letter about tree canopy can be found at the bottom of this page.

Zwaardslootseweg

A new transformer station will be built on Zwaardslootseweg. This is because the already existing station on this road is too small. Stedin and the municipality of Zoetermeer have therefore drawn up plans for a new and larger transformer station. This will be built next to the current transformer station. When the new station is in use, the existing station will be removed.

Walk-in meeting

On Thursday, September 5, from 7 to 9 p.m., the municipality and Stedin organized a walk-in evening for residents and interested parties. The evening took place in the auditorium of the Prinses Margrietschool at Antigoneschouw 12 in Zoetermeer. People could drop in at a time that suited them. About 50 stakeholders attended the meeting. Alderman Marijke van der Meer was partly present. The report can be found at the bottom of this page.

Petition to preserve tennis court

During the meeting, residents presented to the alderman a petition with 300 signatures for the preservation of the tennis court. The alderman accepted the petition and promised the residents that the municipality will give the tennis court a place somewhere in the neighborhood.
