Preparations for Ice Control
In early October, the municipality’s snow and ice removal crew begins preparing for the new winter season. That may seem a little early, but it ensures that the crew is well-prepared and can hit the roads safely when the weather changes.
What are we going to do?
On Monday, October 5, the removable posts will be removed from the bike paths that are part of a gritting route. This will allow gritting trucks to access these bike paths in case of icy conditions, so that these routes can also be treated with grit.
On Thursday, October 8, and Saturday, October 10, we’ll be inspecting the first group of our salt spreaders. We also refer to this as the fleet inspection. We’ll check to make sure the salt spreaders are working properly and that the roads are passable. In addition, the salting crew will practice their routes and tasks for the upcoming season. So you may see salt spreaders or snowplows in your neighborhood on these days.
