Neighborhood Councilor Jordy Boerboom Cycling Through Palenstein
On Friday afternoon, September 4, the new Palenstein neighborhood alderman, Jordy Boerboom, visited the Palenstein neighborhood together with neighborhood director Sandra Rispens.
The tour began at the Gelijk youth hub on the new Plein. The youth hub is in its start-up phase, and the alderman got a sneak peek at, among other things, the music that young people will be able to produce at the youth center in the future. The new mural, which was painted by young people over the summer, was also admired.
At the inZet/Piëzo Center, the alderman spoke with volunteers who are dedicated to the neighborhood—including Dutch language teachers, visiting volunteers, language buddies, and members of the “Neighborhood and Police Together” team. Anyone who wants to do something for the neighborhood is welcome to stop by Rakkersveld 257. The alderman was impressed by the wide range of activities available for people of all ages.
After a bike ride filled with stories, the alderman ended up at the green community shed near the Ambachtsheerlijkheid community garden. There, he received a warm welcome with fresh soup and met with various volunteers from the community garden and the Palenstein litter cleanup brigade.
It was a pleasant first meeting during which stories, neighborhood initiatives, and experiences from the neighborhood were shared, and, of course, the community garden was admired. “This has left me wanting more,” said the alderman, who was pleasantly surprised by the diversity and enthusiasm of the Palenstein residents. “I’m already looking forward to the next meeting!”
