3 Artists Selected for an Art Commission at MOTION Beweeg College and Sports Hall

A work of art will be installed in front of the new MOTION Beweeg College building and the sports hall in Zoetermeer. The MOTION Beweeg College and Sports Hall Art Commission project group has selected three artists to create a preliminary design for this project: Boris Tellegen, Dingeman Deijs, and Giny Vos.

The artists are tasked with designing a work of art that encourages people to gather and move. In addition, the artwork must have a clear connection to its surroundings and be clearly visible, both from the school and from public spaces.

The project group consists of representatives from the MOTION Beweeg College and the Phoenix korfball club, under the guidance of the municipality. Because the school and the korfball club will soon be using the location, they have been closely involved in the development of the art commission from the very beginning. Together with the municipality, the project group established the guidelines for the commission, identified the location, and selected three artists from among 46 submitted portfolios. During an initial meeting, the artists visited the location and met the project group. They were given a tour by various representatives of the future users, including two students from the MOTION Beweeg College.

Over the coming months, the artists will further develop their ideas. At the end of 2026, they will present their preliminary designs to the project group. Based on those designs, one artist will be selected for the final commission.

The artwork is scheduled to be completed in 2027, coinciding with the completion of the landscaping of the outdoor area surrounding the MOTION Beweeg College. This will make art a visible part of this new space for sports, education, and social interaction from the very beginning.
