  • guidance during development
  • Help with parenting questions
  • support from a specialist
  • or—if necessary—more intensive and long-term youth services

How do our professionals work?

We believe it’s important for parents and children to contribute their ideas and be involved in decision-making. That’s why we always explain clearly:

  • What are the steps in the support process?
  • what options are available
  • what the benefits and consequences of those choices are
  • and what preferences you and your child have

There is room for your questions, concerns, and emotions. You can let us know what is important to you and what doesn’t work for you. We’ll take this information into account when making the final decision about the type of assistance to provide.

Youth aid, applications

What happens after the municipality receives your application?

Urgent

Do you need immediate assistance? The municipality will always first check whether you are entitled to assistance. If so, the municipality will quickly grant permission so that assistance can begin immediately.

Investigation by the municipality

Within 8 weeks of your application, a staff member from the Youth and Family Assistance Team will call you to discuss the application. We’ll do this together with you and your child. We’ll assess how your child is doing and how things are going within the family.

If there is already a family group plan for your family, we will include it in the investigation. If the municipality is unsure whether youth assistance is needed, we will seek independent advice from an expert who is not involved in your case. You can get free help from someone who does not work for the municipality: a client support worker. They can help you think things through and give you advice.

Is more help needed? Then the staff member will work with you to see which facility is appropriate.
