The Social Amenities Cluster (MVC) Buytenwegh

In the Buytenwegh district a new sustainable school building will be built to house SO De Keerkring and SBO De Horizon. It concerns 2 schools for specialized education. New construction is necessary because the current school buildings are outdated and because this will enable us to continue to offer good education and facilities in the district and the city. The municipality has included this plan for new construction in the Integral Housing Plan for Education 2022-2025. This plan states which school buildings will be renovated or replaced.

What will be in the new MVC?

The new MVC consists of specialized education, child care, a gymnasium and a number of social/societal functions.

The new school building will house specialized education for students aged 4 - 12, namely special primary education and special education for very difficult-to-learn children. There will also be childcare and after-school programs. There will also be a sports hall, a multi-purpose room and space for social functions such as a neighborhood association.

It is not yet known what will happen to the site of SBO De Horizon at Mendelssohnrode 2, which will be decided at a later date.

Place for learning and meeting

With the new building we want to organize education well and strengthen cooperation in the neighborhood. It will be a place where children learn, play and meet, and where local residents can also make use of it.

Vision Zoetermeer 2040

The new Buytenwegh Community Services Cluster (MVC) brings the Zoetermeer 2040 Vision to life in the neighborhood. Education, childcare, sports, and social activities come together in and around the building. Where will the new school building be located?

The new MVC will be located at 60-68 César Franckrode.

What facilities will there be in the Buytenwegh MVC?

The project's new building will house specialized education for students aged 4 - 12, namely special primary education and special education for very difficult-to-learn children. There will also be childcare and out-of-school care. The project also includes a sports hall, a multi-purpose room and space for social functions such as a neighborhood association.

Location César Franckrode

Why was the César Franckrode chosen?

This site is large enough for the schools, child care, a new gymnasium and other facilities. The site is readily available and zoned for community facilities. The site also offers opportunities to improve the neighborhood.

What does the new building mean for traffic?

Traffic safety around the MVC Buytenwegh project is important. Therefore, we are making a plan to arrange the pick-up and drop-off of children safely. In doing so, we pay special attention to the organized transportation of students.

How is the appearance of the neighborhood changing?

With the new construction, the neighborhood will get modern amenities and a refurbished public space. This will involve the neighborhood.

Will construction cause inconvenience?

The demolition of the current buildings and new construction will cause inconvenience. We will make every effort to keep this to a minimum. At this time, we have outlined a schedule. The start of construction is scheduled for mid-2027.

What will happen to current sports facilities?

The gymnasium is outdated and will be demolished. A new gym will be added to the new building. The exact details of this will be worked out later.

How do we involve you as local residents in the process?

We are going to hold meetings to inform you and to get your input where possible. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and share your thoughts about the program with us. We will keep you informed at www.zoetermeer.nl/mvc-buytenwegh.

What will happen to IKC De Watersnip?

IKC De Watersnip is not part of the plans for the MVC Buytenwegh project at César Franckrode. Nothing will change for this school for the time being; the school will remain at its current location in the current school building.

Location Mendelssohnrode

Why wasn't Mendelssohnrode chosen as the site?

The Mendelssohnrode site is too small for all of the program's plans: education, child care, the social services and sports.

What will happen to Mendelssohnrode if the school moves to César Franckrode?

SBO De Horizon is leaving. This will free up the site for a new development. This is still under investigation and will be handled as a separate project. The future filling of Mendelssohnrode is not yet known.

How do we involve the neighborhood in the new plans?

As soon as there is more clarity, we will organize a meeting. You will then be able to participate and share your thoughts on the program with us.
