Exemption for Bicycles in Pedestrian Zones

You can apply for an exemption if you: 

• Have difficulty walking due to a physical disability; and
• rely on a bicycle to travel short distances and reach various amenities.

With this exemption, you are permitted to ride a bicycle in the pedestrian zones of the Stadshart and the Dorpsstraat at times when cycling is normally not allowed.

The exemption applies in the City Center:  

• Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
• Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Late-night shopping (Friday) from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The exemption applies to the " Dorpsstraat":

• Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
• Late-night shopping (Friday) from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Please include one of the following documents with your application: 

• a copy of your valid disability parking permit (GPK); or
• A signed medical statement from your primary care physician or medical specialist indicating that you have a mobility impairment that prevents you from walking more than 100 meters.

The municipality will review your application within 8 weeks. You will be notified of our decision by email. If your application is approved and you have paid online, you will receive the following by mail:

• an individual exemption
• a sticker for your bike, if you've requested one

The sticker is not required, but it can make it clear to law enforcement and other users of public spaces that you have an exemption.

If you have chosen to pay at the counter in City Hall, you will receive an email notifying you that you can come to pay for and pick up your exemption. Would you also like to receive a sticker? If any information is missing, we ask that you complete your application. You have 4 weeks to complete your application. Once your application is complete, we will process it.

The exemption is valid for 5 years from the date of the decision by the municipality of Zoetermeer.
