What you need to know
Keeping a found object
- You can keep the found item yourself or drop it off at City Hall.
- Please note! Large items can only be dropped off at the Waste Collection Department.
Becoming the owner of a found object
If you keep the item yourself:
- When you file the report, indicate that you want to take ownership of the found object.
- Does the person who lost the object not pick it up within 1 year? Then you become the owner of the object.
You deliver the item to the municipality:
- You can become an owner only if the object has a value higher than €450.
- You report 1 month before the expiration of the 1-year retention period.
- The municipality is not required to warn you before the deadline expires.
- Don't report in time? Then you can no longer claim the item.

- Drop off the document at City Hall.
- You cannot report this online.
- You should not keep these documents at home.
The municipality may not return a found identity card or passport to its owner. These documents are immediately destroyed. No records are kept of this. The owner is not informed.
Keys

- You can stop by City Hall (entrance Engelandlaan 502) without an appointment.
- You will report to the hosts/hostesses.
- Found keys are kept in a box.
- You can see for yourself if your keys are in the box.
Keys found
- Drop off the key(s) at City Hall (entrance Engelandlaan 502).
- You will report to the hosts/hostesses.
- You cannot report this online.
Cell phone
Cell phone lost
- You can stop by City Hall (entrance Engelandlaan 502) without an appointment.
- You will report to the hosts/hostesses.
- Note! Please bring your cell phone charger with you.
- A staff member will check for you if a phone has been found that matches your description.
- Does one of the phones found match your description? Then we will pair the phone with the charger you brought with you.
- Can we determine that it is indeed your cell phone? Then you will be given the phone.
Cell phone found
- You can stop by City Hall (entrance Engelandlaan 502) without an appointment.
- You will hand the phone to one of our hosts/hostesses.
- You cannot report this online.
- Found cell phones are kept for 3 months. After this, the phones are destroyed.
Bank card or credit card
Bank card or credit card lost
- Check with the relevant bank.
Bank card or credit card found
- Return the pass to the appropriate bank or
- Send the pass to the appropriate bank.
- You cannot report this online.
Public transport chip card
OV chip card lost
- Check the website OV-chipkaart blocking and replacement.
OV chip card found
- Hand in the OV-chip card at a carrier's counter. or
- Send the OV-chip card to OV-chipkaart.
- You cannot report this online.
Waste disposal pass

- Apply online for a new pass (see: waste disposal pass). or
- Get a new pass from Customer Service Waste Collection.

- Drop off the waste disposal pass at City Hall.
- You cannot report this online.
Bike
Bicycle lost
The municipality may have removed your bicycle. This happens if your bicycle is standing dangerously, for too long, or parked somewhere that is not allowed.
So your bike does not have to be stolen.
- Call 14 079, option 2 (Waste Collection Department, bicycle depot).
- Is your bike not there? If so, report the theft.
- Reporting can be done online or at a police station.
- Your bicycle will then appear in the bicycle theft registry.
Bicycle found
Do you see a bicycle:
- that stands unused for a long time (orphan bike)
- is in a dangerous and/or unusual location
- that has been severely neglected and can no longer ride (bicycle wreck)?
Leave the bicycle! You are committing theft otherwise.
- Report it via BuitenBeter app or via Report residential and living environment.

How long will it take?
If you file a report through the website www.verlorenofgevonden.nl, the report will be processed the next business day.
On Mondays, the Public Square is closed. A report made during the weekend will be processed on Tuesday.
